Pneumonia is an acute infectious inflammation of the lungs that occurs primarily in the air bubbles called the alveoli. In a healthy person, they are filled with air, which promotes free gas exchange during breathing.

And in a patient with pneumonia, mucus and fluid accumulate in them, which limit the entry of oxygen into the lungs, causing coughing and chest pain.

A high risk of getting pneumonia are:

children under 5 years old;
aged people;
patients with chronic diseases: obstructive bronchitis, bronchial asthma, heart failure, liver cirrhosis and others;
people with weakened immune systems;
those who work in public places and are in contact with a large number of people.

Pneumonia can cause meningitis, heart pathologies, cause inflammation of the kidneys, lung abscess, etc. Therefore, it is extremely dangerous to fight pneumonia on your own: you need to be treated only according to the doctor’s recommendations.


One of the conditions for an effective fight against pneumonia and the rapid relief of its symptoms is a comprehensive treatment regimen developed by a specialist. Along with synthetic agents, phytotherapy occupies an important place in it.

Due to the high content of mucous substances, marshmallow roots:

relieve inflammation of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract;
have an expectorant effect;
have an enveloping effect.
To stimulate and facilitate expectoration of phlegm 1 tbsp. l. marshmallow roots pour 100 ml of boiled water at room temperature and leave to infuse for an hour, strain.

Take the infusion warm 1 tbsp. l. 4-6 times a day every 2 hours.

Plantain leaves are an effective expectorant, enveloping and emollient agent for respiratory diseases, accompanied by inflammation of the mucous membrane and purulent processes in the lungs, trachea and bronchi.

Due to flavonoids, mucus and bitter substances, plantain medicinal raw materials:

inhibits the growth of bacteria;
relieves a debilitating cough, promoting the discharge of phlegm;
has a calming and antiseptic effect.

To prepare the infusion, place three filter bags of plantain leaves in an enamel bowl, pour 200 ml of boiling water and leave to infuse for 15 minutes.

Adults take ½ cup warm 4 times a day 15 minutes before meals. Children 1-3 years old — 1 dess. l., 3-5 years — 2 dess. l., 5-10 years — 2 tbsp. L., 10-14 years old — ⅓ –½ glasses three times a day 15 minutes before meals.


Mother-and-stepmother contains bitter glycosides, flavonoids, mucus, thanks to which:

effectively fights cough;
deactivates inflammatory processes;
accelerates the regeneration of damaged lung tissue;
exhibits softening and mild diaphoretic properties;
contributes to the overall strengthening of immunity.
Infusions from mother-and-stepmother thin mucus, facilitate expectoration, stimulate the restoration of the activity of the ciliated epithelium of the trachea and bronchi.

To prepare an infusion of leaves of coltsfoot 2 dess. l. pour 200 ml of hot boiled water, close the lid and insist on a boiling water bath for 15 minutes. Cool to room temperature, strain. Bring the resulting volume of infusion to 200 ml with boiled water. Take it warm.

Adults and children from 14 years old — ⅓ or ½ cup 2-3 times a day one hour before meals. Children 12-14 years old — ¼ glass, 7-12 years old — 2 tbsp. l., 3-7 years — 1 tbsp. l. 2-3 times a day one hour before meals.
